| VED as a mission has the challenging task of revitalizing the energies of a 20 million people, to believe in their own potential and in the potential of the region, to eradicate poverty and backwardness, and march confidently on the path to economic development and prosperity. VED, after thorough study, research, analysis and consultations, has identified that the investment potential in Vidarbha is of the order of Rs 100,000 Crores i.e. US $ 200 billion, by judicious utilization of its natural resources, location advantages and key areas of strength. We are happy that one of our first initiatives -MIHAN, the Multi Modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur, is now a reality and the first phase will begin in a few months from now. The positive impact this single project has had on the economy of the region is something to be seen, to be believed! The “magic” of “enthusing the locals” has happened. !! |

Nagpur is growing well and major investments are coming in the Services Sectors:-
- The IT /ITES business is on the Growth mode.
- Nagpur is emerging as a Logistics hub for Rail-Road and Air.
- Education and Health Services are catering to an area of 400 kms radius.
- Real Estate is booming and Urban Infrastructure is one of the best in cities of this size in India. It is being upgraded for the expected growth.
However, VED would like to see the Manufacturing Sector also to grow big here:
- Mega projects and down-stream SMEs can come up in Steel, Cement and Power Sectors, taking advantage of our vast mineral resources.
- Textile Industry needs active push to turn it into a major economic activity
- Timber, Bamboo and Agro processing industries have huge potential.
- Engineering Industries, especially in Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution have excellent prospects here.
- The SEZ in Mihan offers, with the facility of a Rail Terminal, Road Terminal and International Airport, multi –product manufacturing space .VED would like to see electronic goods ,gems and jewellery, garments, pharmaceutical and food –processing units set up their units here.
Finally we see a huge economic potential in Tourism. This land is home to 3 Tiger Reserves, 13 National parks, Historical Monuments, Religious places and other tourist attractions. waiting to be turned into flourishing and responsible businesses. The years ahead are bright and I am confident that the opportunities this region offers will meet with enthusiastic response from investors and entrepreneurs from India and Abroad.
