President Shri. Devendra Parekh Speaks

VED, in its heartfelt desire to contribute and ‘give back’ to the region, has as its mission the economic development, progress, self-reliance and prosperity of Vidarbha through the challenging task of revitalizing the energies of a 20 million people, for it is they who will eventually have to work out the potential in various sectors to their advantage for growth and progress.

VED, after thorough study, research, analysis and consultations, has identified that the investment potential in Vidarbha is of the order of Rs 100,000 Crores i.e. US $ 200 billion, by judicious utilization of its natural resources, location advantages and key areas of strength.
We are happy that one of our first initiatives -MIHAN, the Multi Modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur, is now a reality, the major growth engine of this region with immense possibilities, which would have a tremendous positive impact in future for the economy of Vidarbha.

Nagpur is growing well and major investments are coming in the Services Sectors. The IT /ITES business is on the Growth mode. Nagpur is emerging as a Logistics hub for Rail, Road and Air. With it, warehousing would be established here and benefit several other sectors.

The SEZ in MIHAN offers multi-product manufacturing space with the facility of a Rail Terminal, Road Terminal and International Airport. VED would like to see electronic goods, gems and jewellery, garments, pharmaceutical and food-processing units set up their units here.

Real Estate is booming and Urban Infrastructure is one of the best in cities of this size in India. It is being upgraded for the expected growth.

VED would like to see the Manufacturing Sector also to grow big here. Mega projects and down-stream SMEs can come up in Steel, Cement and Power Sectors, taking advantage of our vast mineral resources. Engineering Industries, especially in Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution have excellent prospects here.

Education and Health Services are catering to an area of 400 km. radius. VED has been making demands for the establishment of several national-level educational institutions in Vidarbha which would be easily accessible to and cater to entire Vidarbha, central and south India.

The Textile Industry with Nagpur, with its own indigenous handloom and Tussar, can see a spurt of economic activity here creating waves in employment opportunities.

Timber, Bamboo and Agro-processing industries have huge potential. Vidarbha has no dearth of the raw material which can be value-added to find a suitable market for income generation.

Dairy farming too is becoming a big entrepreneurial activity as it has vast opportunities.

VED sees a huge economic potential in Tourism with its 3 Tiger Reserves, 13 National Parks, Historical Monuments, Religious places and other tourist attractions waiting to be turned into flourishing and responsible businesses. VED hopes that the opportunities here will meet with enthusiastic response from investors and entrepreneurs from India and abroad

To sum it up, I feel the future is bright and I am confident that the people of Vidarbha will prosper through the opportunities this region offers, provided they make that determined effort to harness the potential which would pave the way, indeed, for a ‘Shining Vidarbha’!
